Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. The Heart and Stroke Foundation is recommending caution and preparation for those with heart disease and stroke. It appears senior citizens with cardiovascular disease are more likely to become infected and have more severe symptoms based on current research.

Most importantly, in a heart or brain emergency be sure to call your local emergency response number or go to your closest hospital. These acute events are time-critical and advanced care may be needed.

One of the best ways to prevent infection is washing your hands.
